Barbara Ann Schmidt, 90, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2025, with her daughter at
her bedside. She was born on February 22, 1935, in Rapid City, South Dakota, to Genevieve and
Lawrence Ryther. The youngest of two daughters, Barbara moved with her family to Boise,
Idaho, when she was just four years old.
Barbara met the love of her life, Richard James (“Dick”) Schmidt, while he was stationed at
Mountain Home Air Force Base. They married and later moved to Colorado, where Barbara
worked to help support Dick as he completed his engineering degree. After his graduation, Dick
accepted a position with Thiokol Chemical Corporation, bringing them to Utah. They settled in
Bear River City where they built their home and raised their family. They later moved to
Brigham City and spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona, enjoying the sunshine and playing golf
together.
Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an exceptional homemaker
whose many talents enriched the lives of those around her. She was well known for her sewing,
baking, quilting, and especially her gift for painting—her favorite creative outlet.
Barbara and Dick were longtime members of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, where their faith and
community were an important part of their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Dolores; her beloved husband, Richard; and
her grandson, Tyler Marble. She is survived by her children: Brenda (Neil) Marble, Tammy
Misrasi, and Greg (Elaine) Schmidt; her six grandchildren; and her four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on December 8th at 2:30 pm at the Bear River City Cemetery.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff of Maple Springs and Encompass
Hospice Care for their compassion and support.
