Dora Jean Cross Hobbs passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on January 14, 2026. Her life was one of faith, service, laughter, love, and devotion, and her passing reflects the love that surrounded her. Dora Jean was born on November 17, 1948, in Alameda, California, the second daughter of Wilbert Asa Cross and Joyce Edith Henley Cross. In her early teens she developed the values that guided her throughout her life- faith in Jesus Christ, service to others, and deep love for family. A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in the Relief Society, served a service mission, and was an avid genealogist. She loved being a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Dora lived her testimony daily through kindness, generosity, and unwavering belief in eternal families. Her faith was a source of strength and comfort, and she found peace in the promises of the gospel. She was dedicated to Scouting, giving countless hours in service and leadership. She was especially honored to receive the Silver Beaver Award, a recognition that reflected her lifelong commitment to youth and community. Dora also demonstrated her dedication to the community by being a proud member of the Civic Club. Dora was passionate about civic pride and instilled a love of country, social justice, and responsibility of freedom to many. Dora had a profound love of gardening, finding joy and serenity in nurturing living things. Her gardens were places of beauty and care, much like her home, where she was a gracious hostess. All were welcome in her home where they were generously fed, fiercely loved, and treated as family. She is preceded in death by her beloved soulmate and husband, Douglas Jon Hobbs, her parents, her sister Kathleen Dickson, and a son. She is survived by her brother Ron (Deana) Cross; sister Suzi (Marc) Butler; her children Esther (Daniel) Hobbs, Gerrit, Caleb (Beckie), Eli (Angie), Andrew (Laura), Antje, and Alexander (Loraine); 18 grandchildren; 3.75 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
