E’Layne T. Green Obituary

Our beloved E’Layne Thekla Chambers Green, aged 92, passed away August 5th 2025 in Brigham City, Utah.

Born February 8th, 1933 in Salt Lake City to Herbert Thompson Chambers and Thekla Anna Drechsel. She grew up in the Lake Breeze area of Salt Lake City, surrounded by numerous extended family from her mother’s native Germany.

Sister to Armand Miller (Ellie), Stanley Chambers (Margaret), Donald Chambers (Patsy) and LaVon Chambers Johnson (Johnny), all now deceased.

She married Kiester Sidney Smith in October 1954 and had 2 sons-- Steven (Marilyn) and Mikel (Annette). Later divorced. She later married Carl Sterzer, who died in August 1972. She married Allen Jay (Red) Green on November 19th, 1973 and had one son with him--Alex Jay (AJ (Brandi)). Red passed away on August 1st, 1993. She was sealed to him for Time and Eternity in the Brigham City Temple on February 7th 2020.

She has numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, who loved her quick wit and humor, service, and generosity.

Mother was raised by a single mom in the midst of the Great Depression and World War II. She learned early the value of hard work, thrift, innovation, integrity and repurposing things before there was even a name for it—values she held throughout her life, and passed on to her 3 sons.

She graduated from West High School in Salt Lake City at the start of the Korean War, and then worked at Tooele Army Depot moving tanks and armored vehicles in and out of the repair shops. She later worked in electronic assembly at Litton Industries in Salt Lake, and as a printer for the State of Utah. Her last job brought her full circle to L3 Communications, the successor to Litton Industries. She worked into her mid 70s with the engineers on the “Brick” Team assembling components on circuit boards.

Mom was not afraid to take on anything—long before the age of You Tube and the Internet, she repaired and wired our home, put up fences, hauled hay, hunted deer, fixed trucks and went to college in her 30s.

She loved animals, especially horses which she raised and trained throughout her life. She and Red were active in the Rocky Mountain Morgan Horse Association. They also owned and managed Riverview Farm where they bred exotic birds and waterfowl.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved attending her Brigham City River Ward where she had many friends. She especially enjoyed Gospel Doctrine Class.

Despite her advanced age, Mom remained very independent, living in her house until she broke her hip in a fall on Christmas Eve 2024. She spent the last months of her life in rehab and memory care, but frequently asked to go home… mom has now “Gone Home” and is having a joyous reunion with her parents, siblings and other loved ones who passed before her.

A viewing will be held Monday, August 11th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the Gillies Mortuary, 634 E. 200 S. in Brigham City. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Gillies Mortuary. A luncheon will follow the funeral.

Burial will be Wednesday August 13th at 2:30 p.m. at Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Special thanks is given to the staff at Maple Springs Rehab and Memory Care for their gentle, compassionate service to mom in the last months of her life.
