Joaquina Reyes Noriega passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Logan Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia.
Joaquina, affectionately known as Jackie or Yaya by her family and friends, was born on August 26, 1938, in Santiago Papasquiaro, Durango, Mexico, to Francisca Reyes and José de Jesús Saucedo. She was the youngest of ten children.
At a young age, she moved to El Paso, TX, where she met her first husband, Cecil Mora Noriega. They were blessed with two children: Cecil E. Noriega and Frances Noriega Munoz. Though their marriage ended in 1972, Jackie later found love again and married Frank Gonzales on July 5, 1976. With our mother’s passing, there is a hole in our hearts that will be difficult to fill. Her unwavering love for those close to her was truly remarkable.
She was a staunch Catholic and a member of St Henry’s Catholic Church.
May God rest her beautiful soul. We were fortunate to have had her as our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to many.
She leaves behind a beautiful and loving legacy that touched everyone who knew her.
Our mother always demonstrated remarkable tenacity and courage, qualities that will continue to inspire us as we move forward without her. She possessed hard-earned wisdom and a deep faith in the Almighty.
She loved to dance to Mexican music and delighted in singing for others. In her youth, she performed with a Mariachi band in Ogden, UT.
She enjoyed crocheting, canning, playing card games, and especially loved tending to her beautiful flowers and garden.
She also cherished her pet Abby and her beloved birds.
She is now free of pain and free to soar with the angels in heaven.
