Listen to Obituary

Joaquina Reyes Noriega passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Logan Regional Hospital, surrounded by her devoted family, after bravely enduring a long battle with leukemia.

Joaquina, affectionately known as Jackie or Yaya by her family and friends, was born on August 26, 1938, in Santiago Papasquiaro, Durango, Mexico, to Francisca Reyes and José de Jesús Saucedo.

At a young age, she moved to El Paso, TX, where she met her first husband, Cecil Mora Noriega. They were married on January 15, 1960. Together, they were blessed with two children: Cecil E. Noriega (Elsa) and Frances Noriega Munoz. Although their marriage ended in 1972, Jackie found love again and married Frank Gonzales on July 5, 1976. Later, she shared her life with her devoted companion, Macedonio Gutierrez, who remained by her side until his untimely passing in December 26, 2015. {?}

She is survived by both of her children, her three grandsons, whom she cherished dearly: David Noriega (Savanah), Emilio Noriega, and Gustavo Muñoz, and her two great-grandchildren, Phenix & Annika Noriega

She was preceded in death by both parents, all of her siblings, both husbands, her companion, and her grandson, Spencer Allen Hunsaker.

With our mother’s passing, an enormous void has been left in our hearts—one that will be difficult to fill. Her unwavering love for those close to her was truly remarkable.

A devoted Catholic and longtime member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, she possessed hard-earned wisdom and a deep faith in the Almighty.

May God rest her beautiful soul. We are deeply grateful to have had her as our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend to so many.

She leaves behind a beautiful and loving legacy that touched all who knew her.

Our mother always demonstrated remarkable tenacity and courage—qualities that will continue to inspire us as we move forward in life without her.

She had a passion for dancing to Mexican music and delighted in singing for others.

She enjoyed crocheting, canning, playing card games, and especially loved tending to her beautiful flowers and garden.She also cherished her beloved pet Abby and her treasured birds.She is now free of pain and soaring with the angels in heaven.
