Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather Kenneth W. Witt passed away peacefully at the age of 83, with his eternal companion Karen by his side on June 19, 2025. We will hold onto the memories we all have with him, and cherish each and every one of them, until we meet again.
Ken was born on March 15, 1942, to Kenneth S. and Theora Witt in Heber, Utah. He grew up in Payson, and Provo with four other wonderful siblings. He had a special connection with his brother Norman, and together they inspired each other into many adventures that became incredible stories shared with the family. They made us laugh, squirm, and yearn for more.
He met the love of his life Karen Ostler on a blind date. They were married on June 27, 1961, sealed in the St George Utah Temple the following year. They were blessed with 64 incredible years together. They were also blessed with four beloved children whom they adore. Dianne, Scott, Michael, and Jason. Though they were faced with many trials throughout their marriage especially the unbearable loss of their son Michael when he was just seventeen years old, they weathered the storms together with faith, strength, laughter, and a lot of love.
Ken with the help of Karen started their own dry cleaning business "Witt's Cleaners" where they served the great people of Brigham City. Many years later they sold it and Ken began working for the Box Elder School District as a Graphic Art Teacher and their main Printer. He really enjoyed working with the students at Box Elder High School for many years. He retired in 2005.
Ken belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many positions faithfully throughout his life and he loved to share the gospel with others. Ken and Karen served two service church missions, at the Humanitarian center, and the Conference Center. They also served as proselytizing missionaries at the Little Rock, Arkansas mission. While serving in Arkansas they helped children there who didn't have the school supplies they needed or could afford, so Ken and Karen were able to help facilitate through their connections with the Humanitarian Center to supply 10,000 pre made school bags with everything from paper, to pencils and more. This helped all students in Pulaski County, Arkansas.
Ken went to BYU for two years, and also to Dixie College. At BYU he was a gymnast for their trampoline team and won a silver medal in a competition. Ken was an accomplished artist; his paintings are cherished by all his loved ones. One thing Ken was known for was his beautiful gardens. He was so talented at landscaping, making his yards be the envy of everyone. His flowers, trees, and grass bloomed to perfection, he worked hard on them, and also on his fruit and vegetable gardens too. We all benefited from his hard work and learned so much along the way too. He was also known for his famous bacon. Nobody knew how to cook bacon better than Poppy, and all the grandchildren and great grandchildren lined up for it during the summers at Bear Lake. Ken had many hobbies over the years, he tried basket weaving, and stained glass. He worked hard on his family history and loved doing temple work for his family. He was also very proud his family helped establish the Heber Valley.
Ken also loved to hike, kayak, take rzr rides, target shooting, camping, and above all spending time with his family. His sneakiness and laughter was our most favorite. Wherever he went, or whatever he was doing, you always saw him smile or give that side eye glance to you and have a Coca Cola in his hand. Dad loved his Coke since he was a child, he didn't need water he said. He had us all hooked on it too.
Ken leaves behind a legacy of immense love and is survived by his beautiful eternal companion Karen Ostler Witt. He also leaves behind his daughter Dianne (Delbert) Nawyn, his two sons K. Scott (Victoria) Witt, and Jason B (Susie) Witt. As well as 15 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, all who lovingly referred to him as Poppy. He also leaves behind his sister Claudia (Ted) Johnson. All of us have been blessed for having him in our lives, and cannot wait till we meet again.
He was greeted with loving open arms by his son Michael James Witt. We know without a doubt he was the first to be there with joy and laughter in seeing his dad again and to tell him "well done dad, well done". He was also preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Jo Anne (Faye) Mattinson, Shanna (Stephen) Ashby, and Norman J. (LuAnn) Witt. We know Norm and Ken will be causing some mischief again up there. Watch out, the Witt boys are back together again!
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all those who cared for and served Ken.
