Larry Velasquez

May 16, 1958 — June 22, 2018

Brigham City- Larry Dean Velasquez, 60, took his final breath on Friday, June 22nd, 2018 in the same beautiful town he took his first, on May 16, 1958. Larry was the second born and first son of Julian P. Velasquez and Barbara J Corr Velasquez and the first grandson in what would become a broad, loving family. In his youth, Larry excelled in sports, rebellion, and friendship- many of which lasted his lifetime. After his graduation in 1976, Larry was gifted with two sons who would grow to be every bit as gregarious and head strong as their father. In 1996, he was gifted with a third son, and, despite battling illness, Larry was fortunate enough to see him excel in sports and grow to adulthood. Larry loved golf and golf courses, and with a trusted dog at his side, he spent nearly 30 years keeping fairways firm, greens rolling, and regulars laughing. Larry was an avid sportsman and bestowed the same love for hunting and fishing on his sons that his family had passed to him. He doted on every one of his grandkids, adored being everyone's "Uncle Larry", supported every child in their sport of choice, trained numerous outdoor canine companions, and lived as loudly as he spoke. He loved family recipes, mountainous Sunday rides in the Balmer Jeep, black licorice, back scratches, and cheering for the Giants, Braves, and Jazz. His memory will endure in his sons Derek (Naomi), Trevor (Katie), and Ryder; wife, Monica; mother Barbara; sisters Julie (David) Carner and Diana (Van) Mund; 9 grandchildren, 11 nieces/nephews, and 7 great nieces/nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father, and sister Suzie. Viewing will be held Wednesday, June 27 from 6 to 8 pm at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, UT. After cremation, a celebration of life will be held at Docks Flat, Mantua, UT on Saturday, June 30 beginning at 3 pm. Send condolences to www.gfc-utah.com
