Nola was born on August 23, 1945, in Burley, Idaho. She was the fourth daughter of Burton and Erma Mackey. She was raised in Burley with her four sisters. She attended schools in Burley before going on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Utah State University.
As a teenager, Nola worked as a carhop in Burley. During her college years, she worked at the Bluebird Restaurant in Logan and later began a long career with First National Bank, which later merged with Zions Bank. She retired from Zions in 2000.
While attending USU, Nola met Stephen Hancey, and the two were married in Logan, Utah, in 1966. After their marriage, they moved to North Carolina while Stephen served in the Army. Following his discharge, they returned to Logan, where they raised their family.
After retirement, Nola and Stephen loved traveling to the British Virgin Islands where they would rent a sailboat and explore the islands with friends. She also enjoyed sailing their own boat, the Han-Sea, on Bear Lake, as well as skiing and mountain biking.
Nola is survived by her daughter Susan (Randy), her son Ben, and her five grandchildren: Erik, Andrew, Ethan, Clara, and Meredith. She is also survived by her sisters, Kerry and Linda. She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen, her parents Burton and Erma, and her sisters Shirley and Margie.
A graveside service will be held at the Logan City Cemetery on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 12:00.
