Zakary Scott Cowley, 25, passed away on October 29, 2025. He was born on May 17, 2000, in Brigham City, UT to parents Scott V Cowley and Deena Buist Hammer. Zak lived in Brigham City, Layton, and Clinton throughout different periods of his life. Before his passing, he was employed at Autoliv in Brigham City. Zak loved nothing more than to be outside; whether that was snowboarding, skating, biking, or riding his motorcycle. Mocha, Zak’s dog, was his soul mate. He loved her very deeply.
Zakary is survived by his parents, Deena (Kiley Jensen) Hammer and Scott (Amy) Cowley; five sisters, Shayne (Jordan Allred) Cowley, Taylor (Tyson Flores) Cowley, Kaila (Shaunece Despain) Metz, Kadi (Seth) Cunningham, and Savanna Metz; two brothers, Austin Hammer and Landon Hammer; one nephew, Eziah Flores and one niece, Althea Cunnigham; Grandparents, Don (Joyce) Cowley, John (Nadine) Buist, and Mike (Lisa) Johnson. As well as many other loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Corey Buist, his cousin, Mequel Kite, and his nephew, Ren Benson.
Family and friends are invited to a public viewing to honor Zakary’s life on Friday, November 7th, 2025, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Gilles Funeral Chapel, Brigham City, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, Zak’s family have set up a memorial fund at America First Credit Union in his name. All proceeds will be donated with the goal of spreading awareness about mental health, substance abuse, and addiction.
